Descriptive Guide from JR Ebisu Station for Visitors with Visual Impairments
About These Routes
This guide describes the routes between the JR Ebisu Station East Exit ticket gates and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, in both directions.
- Note: There is no elevator from the JR Ebisu Station platforms to the East Exit ticket gates.
- Note: If you need to use an elevator, please take the elevator to the West Exit ticket gates.

- Caution: Facility names along the route may have changed due to renovations of commercial facilities or other reasons.
Route Guide: Outdoor Route, To the Museum
- This route goes through the indoor connecting walkway, the “Sky Walk,” and then along an outdoor promenade.
- The route is straight and easy to follow, but some sections lack tactile paving, and you will cross a pedestrian crossing where the pedestrian light has no audible signal.
- It takes about 20 minutes on foot and is about 600 meters long.
1. From the JR East Exit Staffed Ticket Gate to the Sky Walk Entrance
- The Sky Walk (an indoor connecting walkway) is in the 4 o’clock direction with your back to the JR East Exit ticket gates.
- With your back to the ticket gates, follow the tactile paving straight ahead. At the first branch, marked by a warning block about 5 meters ahead, turn right.
- From there, turn right at the warning block at the second branch (the next branch after you pass the ticket machines).
- At the next warning block, turn left.
- At the warning block after that, turn right.
- Turn left at the next warning block. From there, you are at the Sky Walk entrance.
2. From the Sky Walk Entrance to the Exit
- The Sky Walk exit is about 400 meters away, in the 11 o’clock direction with your back to the entrance.
- You can either follow the tactile paving or use the moving walkways.
- With your back to the entrance, from the right are: a moving walkway heading toward the exit, the central walkway with tactile paving, and a moving walkway coming toward you from the exit side.
If you follow the tactile paving
- Follow the tactile paving straight for about 100 meters and then turn left at the warning block.
- Go straight for about 10 meters and then turn right at the warning block.
- Continue straight for about 50 meters and then turn left at the warning block.
- Go straight for about 10 meters and then turn right at the warning block.
- Continue straight for about 100 meters. This is where the section with moving walkways ends.
- Follow the tactile paving straight for about 10 more meters and exit the Sky Walk.
- Note: Moving walkways run along both sides of the tactile-paving route.
- Note: The tactile paving in the Sky Walk has no branches, but the direction of travel changes along the way.
If you use the moving walkways
- Note: There are no audio announcements where you get on. There are only audio announcements where you get off.
- Note: The moving walkways are wide enough for two people side by side. If you stand still while riding, keep to the left.
- Note: There are five moving walkways in a row.
- Note: Each one is about 50 meters long, and you need to transfer from one to the next.
- Move away from the tactile paving at the Sky Walk entrance and head in the 2 o’clock direction to reach the start of the first moving walkway.
- After getting off the first moving walkway, go straight for about 5 meters to the start of the second one.
- After getting off the second moving walkway, head in the 11 o’clock direction.
- Go straight for about 10 meters and then turn right. The third moving walkway starts along the wall.
- Note: Between the second and third moving walkways, there is a parking lot entrance on your right.
- After getting off the third moving walkway, go left.
- Go straight for about 10 meters and then turn right. The fourth moving walkway starts along the wall.
- After getting off the fourth moving walkway, go straight for about 5 meters to the start of the fifth one.
- After getting off the fifth moving walkway, return to the tactile paving in the center of the walkway, in the 11 o’clock direction, and go straight to exit the Sky Walk to the outdoors.
3. From the Sky Walk Exit, Cross the Pedestrian Crossing Ahead
- From the Sky Walk exit, follow the tactile paving straight for about 5 meters.
- The tactile paving breaks off for a short stretch. Continue straight for about 3 meters to the warning block in front of the pedestrian crossing.
- Cross at the pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian light does not have an audible signal.
- Note: The crossing is about 5 meters wide, and the distance across is about 6 meters.
4. From After the Crossing to the Warning Block Before the Stairs on the Promenade
- With your back to the crossing, the warning block is about 130 meters ahead, slightly to the right.
- To reach the warning block, walk along the promenade, keeping slightly to the right.
- After traveling 130 meters straight ahead, you will reach a warning block in front of a flight of five steps going up.
- Caution: There is no tactile paving beyond the crossing.
- Caution: Just after the crossing, at the entrance to the promenade, there is a row of bollards about 80 centimeters high, spaced 1.5 meters apart.
- Note: Along the left side of the promenade, buildings stand at intervals, and shops, terraces, and planters extend into the walkway.
- Note: On the right side of the promenade, there are planters and benches. The planters are round or curved, and there are trash cans and signs located here and there.
- Note: JR trains run below the promenade on the right.
5. From the Warning Block Before the Stairs to the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum
- From the warning block, the entrance of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (Main/East Entrance) is in the 11 o’clock direction.
- Do not go up the stairs beyond the warning block. Instead, go left, following the wall of the building.
- There will be a large pillar[A2.1] in front of you. Go around it and out into the wide, roofed walkway beyond.
- Note: There is a gap of about 60 centimeters between the building wall and the pillar.
- Farther on, when you reach a wall, turn right and go about 20 meters.
- When you come to an upward ramp, keep to the right as you go up.
- At the top of the ramp, directly in front of you, is the entrance of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (Main/East Entrance).
- Go through the automatic door and turn right. There is another automatic door.
- Go straight for about 3 meters. The museum’s information desk is on your right.
- You have arrived.
- Note: There is a warning block in front of the museum entrance, and tactile paving continues into the building.
Route Guide: Outdoor Route, Back to the Station
- This route goes along the outdoor promenade and then through the indoor connecting walkway, the “Sky Walk.”

- It takes about 20 minutes on foot and is about 600 meters long.
1. From the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum to the Warning Block Before the Stairs
- With your back to the museum entrance (Main/East Entrance), the warning block before the stairs is in the 11 o’clock direction.
- Note: The tactile paving that runs from inside the museum ends at the warning block in front of the museum entrance.
- With the museum’s information desk on your left, go straight for about 3 meters to reach the museum exit (Main/East Entrance).
- Go out through the automatic door and turn left. There is another automatic door.
- Go straight for about 20 meters along the walkway with a downward ramp, keeping close to the wall on your left.
- Just after the building wall on your left ends, there is a large pillar. Go around it to the left, toward the promenade without a roof.
- Follow the building wall on your left. A flight of five steps going up will be on your left, with a warning block in front of it.
- Do not go up the stairs on your left. Turn right.
2. From the Warning Block Before the Stairs on the Promenade to After the Pedestrian Crossing
- With your back to the warning block, the pedestrian crossing is about 130 meters straight ahead along the promenade.
- Caution: The promenade has no tactile paving until just before the crossing.
- To reach the warning block in front of the crossing, walk toward the center of the promenade.
- Caution: At the exit of the promenade, there is a row of bollards about 80 centimeters high, spaced 1.5 meters apart.
- Note: Along the right side of the promenade, buildings stand at intervals, and shops, terraces, and planters extend into the walkway.
- Note: On the left side of the promenade, there are planters and benches. The planters are round or curved, and there are trash cans and signs located here and there.

5. From the Sky Walk to the JR East Exit Staffed Ticket Gate
- The JR East Exit ticket gates are in the 2 o’clock direction with your back to the Sky Walk.
- From the Sky Walk exit, turn right at the next warning block.
- At the warning block after that, turn left.
- At the warning block after that, turn right.
- From there, turn left at the warning block at the first branch.
- The warning block at the second branch, about 10 meters ahead (the next branch after you pass the ticket machines), is in front of the JR East Exit staffed ticket gate.
- You have arrived.
- Note: Partway along, you will start to hear the sounds of the JR East Exit ticket gates.
Route Guide: Indoor Route, To the Museum
- This indoor route goes from the indoor connecting walkway, the “Sky Walk,” through the Yebisu Garden Place connecting passage.

3. From the Sky Walk Exit to the Garden Place Connecting Passage
If you use the elevator
- Follow the tactile paving for about 5 meters.
- Turn right at the first warning-block branch to reach the elevator.
- Take the elevator down to floor B1.
- After exiting the elevator, follow the wall on your left for about 5 meters.
- Note: The elevator door is set back in a recess. The call button is on the right, just before the door.

- Note: The passage here is a gently rising ramp, about 5 meters wide and about 10 meters long.
If you use the stairs or the escalator
- Follow the tactile paving in the 2 o’clock direction.
- Take the stairs or the escalator down to floor B1.
- Caution: There is no tactile paving leading toward the stairs or escalators.
- Note: The point where you leave the tactile paving is hard to find. As a guide, use the spot just after you pass the moving walkway announcement on your right, which says that the end of the moving walkway is approaching.
- Note: From the left, there is an up escalator, stairs (with a landing partway down), and a down escalator.
4. From the Garden Place Connecting Passage to the 1st Floor
- Continue along the passage for about 10 more meters and then turn left.
- Caution: From here to the museum, there is no tactile paving.
- Caution: After going about 10 meters to the left, there is an escalator on your left and a pillar in the middle of the passage.
- Note: Along both sides of the passage, there are shops, offices, corridors, and various entrances and exits.
- Go about 10 more meters and then head in the 2 o’clock direction for about 10 meters.
- From there, continue for about 20 more meters.
- If you go straight, there is an automatic door leading toward an up escalator. Do not go through it; instead, follow the wall on your left.
- Set back on the left side of the passage is a semicircular elevator hall.
- Take the elevator up to the 1st floor.
- Note: There are two elevators. Facing them, the call button for the left elevator is to the right of its door, and the call button for the right elevator is to the left of its door.
- Note: The elevators are a single-entry type (you enter and exit on the same side) and have no voice announcements.
- Note: The buttons inside the elevators are in the middle of both side walls.
- Note: The elevators run between floor B5 and the 1st floor.
5. From the 1st Floor of Garden Place to the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum
- After exiting the elevator, go straight.
- When you reach a wall, turn left and go about 30 meters along the walkway under the atrium.
- At the end of the walkway, there are stairs going up to Yebisu Garden Hall.
- Just before the stairs, take care as there is a pillar as you turn right and then go up the ramp with handrails on both sides for about 5 meters.
- Note: On the right, parallel to the ramp, there is a flight of stairs going down.
- Note: On your left is the Yebisu Garden Place drop-off area.
- Go straight for about 30 meters, keeping to the right side of the walkway.
- The entrance of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (Main/East Entrance) is on your left.
- Go through the automatic door and turn right. There is another automatic door.
- Go straight for about 3 meters. The museum’s information desk is on your right.
- You have arrived.
Route Guide: Indoor Route, Back to the Station
- This route goes through the indoor passages of Yebisu Garden Place and then through the indoor connecting walkway, the “Sky Walk.”
- You can avoid getting wet on rainy days, but there are few tactile cues, and the route is somewhat harder to follow.
- It takes about 30 minutes on foot and is about 800 meters long.
1. From the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum to the 1st Floor of Garden Place
- Note: The tactile paving that runs from inside the museum ends at the warning block in front of the museum entrance.
- Caution: From here to the Sky Walk entrance, there is no tactile paving.

- Go out through the automatic door and turn left. There is another automatic door.
- Turn right at the warning block outside the exit.
- Go straight for about 30 meters, keeping to the right side of the walkway under the atrium.
- At the end, where there are stairs going down ahead and a ramp on the right, take the ramp.
- Go up the ramp with handrails on both sides for about 5 meters and then turn left.
- Go about 30 meters to the left along the walkway under the atrium.
2. From the 1st Floor of Garden Place to the Connecting Passage
- Set back on the right side of the walkway is a semicircular elevator hall.
- Take the elevator down to floor B1.
- Note: There are two elevators. Facing them, the call button for the left elevator is to the right of its door, and the call button for the right elevator is to the left of its door.
- Note: The elevators are a single-entry type (you enter and exit on the same side) and have no voice announcements.
- Note: The buttons inside the elevators are in the middle of both side walls.

- After exiting the elevator, turn right.
- Head along the connecting passage in the 2 o’clock direction.
- Go about 20 meters and then turn left.
- Head in the 10 o’clock direction for about 10 meters.
- From there, turn right and follow the ramp-like passage, about 5 meters wide, for about 20 meters.
- Caution: There is a large pillar in the middle of the passage.
- Note: Along both sides of the passage, there are shops, offices, corridors, and various entrances and exits.
3. From the Garden Place Connecting Passage to the Sky Walk Entrance
If you use the stairs or the escalator

5. From the Sky Walk to the JR East Exit Staffed Ticket Gate
- The JR East Exit ticket gates are in the 2 o’clock direction with your back to the Sky Walk.
- From the Sky Walk exit, turn right at the next warning block.
- At the warning block after that, turn left.
- At the warning block after that, turn right.
- From there, turn left at the warning block at the first branch.
- Turn left at the warning block at the second branch, about 10 meters ahead (the next branch after you pass the ticket machines).
- With your back to the warning block, follow the tactile paving straight ahead. The East Exit ticket gates will be on your left. Go to the nearest gate, the staffed ticket gate with tactile paving in front of it.
- You have arrived.
- Note: Partway along, you will start to hear the sounds of the JR East Exit ticket gates.
