Ever since it opened in 1995, as the only museum in Japan specializing in photography and imagery, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (Ebisu) has planned and presented a wide variety of exhibitions. The B.1 Gallery focuses on exhibitions of works introducing every aspect of imagery, from its history, to computer graphics, animation, games and even Otaku culture.
The forthcoming event represents a completely new venture for us, as we will be holding live performances in the museum for seven nights. You can look forward to seven exciting evenings, with fascinating guests presented with the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography’s usual flair.

★Night 4★ February 24 (Sun.). Doors open at 17:30. Commences at 18:00
‘Flicker Night’ (Film + Talk)
Guest: NISHIMURA Tomohiro

The flickering between light and dark and the image that lies beyond it. Flicker refers to the rapid flashing of light or images and it is an effect that was commonly used in art to produce direct stimulus, however, it became taboo in 1997 after the Pokemon Panic. This evening’s session will present films ranging from some of the best-known flicker works to others that remain largely unknown.
It will trace the history and background of this phenomenon from the experimental movies of the 1960s, providing a challenging and rare opportunity to witness works in this genre, but how long will you be able to remain watching?
