The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography has actively developed exhibitions of contemporary photography under its charter commitment to serve as “a center for recognizing artists with potential, supporting their creative spirits and developing new creative potential.” The many exhibitions of contemporary photography it has held have demonstrated the Museum’s commitment to this basic museum function.
This third exhibition presents the ideas and narratives of four artists, Mima AKASAKI, Yuji DOGANE, Tamami HITSDA and Kengo KITO, on a shared theme: flowers. Flowers have been a source of inspiration to many artists, playing a dominant role the arts since the dawn of history. These four artists work in a variety of fields-painting, installation art, graphics, among others-and will bring their cumulative experience and their unique styles to the challenge of making flowers bloom at his exhibition.
