The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and the Sankei Shimbun, are pleased to announce that they will be holding an exhibition entitled ‘Quest for Vision vol.1-IMAGINATION: Vision, Perception and Beyond’. The ‘Quest for Vision’ series is a new project that will be held annually to review, one by one, the five guidelines of the imagery collection of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. It will present works, the majority belonging to the collection and ranging from those that predate photography to those using the very latest technologies, in an effort to introduce the various devise and experiments that have been made in the field of imagery from a new perspective.
In this, the first of the series, entitled ‘IMAGINATION: Vision, Perception and Beyond’, we will look at techniques used to express people’s visual imagination. In addition to many fine items and works that trace the history of imagery, it will also feature new and recent works by contemporary artists. Although visual media is developing at a remarkable speed, it is only though the imaginations of individuals that it can be converted into rich experiences. Images stimulate the imagination while in turn the imagination gives birth to further images. By tracing the development of the media and expressive artifices that form an integral part of this chain reaction, we hope to lead you all on an adventure of vision, perception and beyond.
