"New Cosmos of Photography" was started in 1991 by Canon as a cultural support project to discover, nurture, and support new photographers, whose challenge is to pursue possibilities in photographic expression. This publicly offered contest is carried out irrespective of age, nationality, entry size, and form, and encourages new original works that go beyond existing stereotypical photos. In addition, nurturing and supportive activities of winners such as exhibiting winning works, creating collections of winning works, and offering information on a website are being carried out comprehensively.

The New Cosmos of Photography Tokyo Exhibition 2014 will present Excellence Award-winning works by five artists and Honorable Mention works by 20 artists, who were selected from among 1,028 entrants of the 37th competition, 2014. An exhibition of new works by co-Grand Prize winner 2013, Ikuro Suzuki, will be held concurrently.
he open committee meeting to select one Grand Prize winner from among this year’s Excellence Award winners will also be held during the exhibition period. At the Grand Prize selection open committee meeting, Excellence Award winners will give presentations and have question and answer sessions with the judges: approximately 15 minutes per person. This is a great opportunity to hear opinions, evaluations, and active discussions about current photographic expression through the award-winning works with this year’s judges. Do not miss it.
