“Showa: Photography 1945-1989, Section Three” Presents the Light and Shade of the Period of Rapid Growth.
Almost twenty years have passed since the Japanese era name changed from ‘Showa' to ‘Heisei'. Japan has undergone numerous changes since the end of the Second World War, from the reconstruction of the cities to the transformation of people's lifestyles, but how did the photographers of the time record and express this in their work?
“Showa: Photography 1945-1989” aims to introduce the tumultuous years of the Showa period through approximately six hundred photographs, selected from the museum's collection of over twenty-three thousand, which have been divided up into four sections. Section three focuses on the period of rapid growth that resulted in a radical change of social values.
