During the creation, the rules were "things that glow in various ways" and "each letter emits a different kind of light," and each letter is expressed based on them. For example, the 2013 M is represented by a sine wave displayed on an oscilloscope. The 2020 M is represented by a bitcoin chart (which goes up and down irregularly), so it does not necessarily have to look exactly like a letter.
