DesktopBAM

This is a live performance in which a mouse cursor is controlled by a program to perform desktop operations that cannot be achieved by human hands to manipulate sounds and images. At the beginning of the performance, two Quicktime Players are started up and are manipulated like a DJ’s turntable performance. exonemo was inspired by the founder of HIP HOP Africa Bambaata’s album Death Mix II, and its era’s unsophisticated techniques he used to manipulate two turntables. This piece is a tribute to HIP HOP music, which came into the world by “misusing” turntables (the title BAM is taken from Bambaata). BAM is usually performed with a laptop computer in the center of the stage facing the audience, having the desktop screen projected on the back. Some variations start with exonemo destroying the mouse connected to the computer with a hammer before the performance. This was not only showcased as a live performance, but also as an installation.
