Cat and Mouse

Video by Shintaro Yamanaka (Qsyum!)

This is a cutout of the image of a cat and a mouse that was used as the background image of the credit display for "DanmatsuMouse" in 2007, which was made into an independent piece. In the process of making the previous piece, which recorded the movement of cursors when mice were destroyed in various ways, we placed a mouse on top of cat food and invited a cat to come in and recorded the movement of the cursor. However, the cat was so good at avoiding the mouse that the cursor didn't move even a single pixel. It was not used in "DanmatsuMouse" because of that, but it was still interesting to watch as a stand-alone video piece, so we made it into an independent piece. As in Tom and Jerry, the hostile relationship between a cat and a mouse is displaced here, and they continue to ignore or pass each other by. When exhibited, a CRT monitor that reminds viewers of a cat's figure is used, and an empty plate is placed in front of it.
