The TOP Collection is a series of exhibitions based on a single annual theme in which we present selected works from the museum’s collection of over 34,000 items. This year’s theme, learning, strives to stimulate the viewer’s curiosity and imagination. In this year’s second edition, we invite you to experience photographs as fragments of dreams.

In this exhibition, we set out to create a place in which it would be natural for viewers of all ages with a variety of perspectives to freely engage with each other and deepen their understanding of the works. We hope that you will use your imagination, dispense with preconceptions, experience a variety of images, and search for appealing aspects. There is no single answer – and both adults and children are sure to discover new joys and learn new things among the works.

The selection of works and structure of the exhibition are based on the viewpoint of an educator and make use of dialogue as a means of appreciating art – a method that has attracted attention in recent years. It is our hope that this will encourage you to reexamine the collection with a flexible perspective. Please enjoy this diverse range of masterpieces from all over the world, stretching from early photographs of the 19th century to contemporary works of the 21st century.
